BASIC NUTRITION SERVICE PACKAGE (BNSP) TRAINING

INTRODUCTION

Malnutrition is still a major public health problem in developing countries. It is associated with as much as 50–60% of under-five mortality in poor countries and a myriad of morbidities. Therefore, the best way to deal with malnutrition is to prevent or correct immediately through early detection and treatment. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to end all forms of hunger and malnutrition by 2030, making sure that all people-especially children- have access to sufficient and nutritious food all year around.

In recent years, nutrition partners in Somalia have made significant progress in the geographic scaling-up of a basic curative nutrition package, virtually reaching SPHERE standards for coverage. However, there is inadequacy of trained nutrition professionals in the country and the few available ones are not evenly distributed in the regions of the country and this has created a hard to reach places & populations.

Therefore Mustaqbal University has designed a training package on BASIC NUTRITION SERVICES with the aim of contributing in maintaining  geographic coverage of this basic nutrition programme, improving the quality of curative nutrition services and expanding the access to evidence-based and feasible nutrition and nutrition related services through training nutrition cadres who will contribute in the reduction of child morbidity & mortality rate in the country. Furthermore, Mustaqbal University is committed to work closely with Local & International NGOs in the training of this package.
